Pastoral Care at Eltham Park Methodist Church

EVERYONE’S WELCOME

Newcomers are warmly welcomed at Eltham Park Methodist Church and we hope that they will quickly feel at home with us.  We are a friendly and caring Church family, and we want people to feel valued and special within that family.

All members of the congregation who worship with us regularly are assigned to a pastoral group under the leadership of a pastoral visitor who will offer support and encouragement, especially at difficult times.  They will also ensure that the Minister is aware of any concerns which people wish to share with him.

These groups derive from the classes set up by John Wesley, the founder of Methodism.

In the eighteenth century, John Wesley, an Anglican clergyman, was inspired to take the Good News of Jesus Christ out on the road, and people flocked to hear him preach.  So began the long open-air ministry which led to the establishment of the Methodist Church.

Within the early churches or societies which John Wesley started there were classes of eleven members and a leader who met together every week for prayer, Bible study and mutual support.

Some Methodist Churches still have classes, and others are trying to revive them because it is within small groups that people flourish and feel comfortable.  We do not have any classes running at the moment, but there are opportunities to get to know other members of the congregation in small groups starting with coffee after the morning service!

DO JOIN US.  WE LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU.
